Monte Vista Christian School Chooses DTEN for Remote Learning to Offer Students the Best Zoom Virtual Classroom Experience

In the face of COVID-19, districts across the country are preparing for the 2020-2021 school year – working to find the right balance between instruction and safety for students and faculty.

DTEN recently had the opportunity to present educators with technology solutions for remote learning and the virtual classroom at the Zoom Summer Academy. In this special learning track session, we discussed solutions for engaging students with a better learning experience at home.

In our presentation, we referenced a number of schools that have adopted DTEN solutions to enable teachers to better engage with students in hybrid and virtual learning environments. One example is Monte Vista Christian School, out of Watsonville, California.

Preparing the Hybrid Classroom for Fall 2020

Carefully monitoring local and state guidance – as well as gaining insights from faculty and parents – Monte Vista Christian is prepared for a variety of potential scenarios this fall.

The most likely solution is a “hybrid” model for education, where a portion of students attend class from home while others socially distance in classrooms.

A key component of their plan: installing DTEN D7s in every classroom, utilizing Zoom, for a near seamless video conference connection.

“It was almost magical to have the whole classroom together again, something we haven’t seen in months.”

Steven Kiebus, MVCS

Testing the technology this summer has been extremely successful. The school’s IT Director, Steven Kiebus, affirms, “DTEN really brings the whole classroom together, both kids physically in the classroom and those on the screen. It was almost magical to have the whole classroom together again, something we haven’t seen in months.”

Choosing the Right Solution

Before selecting DTEN for their hardware, the school completed due diligence. Steven continues, “We looked at multiple products and right off the bat we saw DTEN offers a lot of features other products don’t have.”

Several important advantages he notes for DTEN D7: the wide-angle camera providing a whole classroom view; multiple microphones and high-quality audio; and, the digital whiteboard to interactively display and annotate lessons.

“Every teacher who uses DTEN falls in love with it.”

As a busy IT Director, he also appreciates DTEN’s intuitive nature, making it easy for staff to learn and use. He recounts, “Every teacher who uses DTEN falls in love with it. Personally, I feel nothing else on the market comes even close.”
